Pasadena generally enjoys warm and sunny weather throughout the year, so weather is not a deciding factor when it comes to planning a trip to Pasadena. It may be wise, though, to avoid the peak travel months of June, July and August and the crowds they bring to the city. Late December and early January also draw large crowds for the Rose Bowl Parade, though some would argue it’s not to be missed. Shoulder season months of March, April, October and November may offer a good opportunity to find cheap flights to Pasadena.

Southern California tops many travelers wish lists thanks to exciting and modern destinations like Los Angeles, but just outside the city, the charmingly nostalgic and upscale town of Pasadena shows a different side of Southern California, one that’s undoubtedly worth slowing down to enjoy.
Many know Pasadena for its annual Rose Bowl Tournament and parade, and indeed, the famed Rose Bowl Stadium can be visited any time of year. Outside of tournament time, though, the stadium becomes a home for sports, special events and a monthly flea market. Shopping, in fact, is one of the best things to do in Pasadena, where hundreds of stores and boutiques invite shoppers to discover their latest treasures.
Shopping isn’t the only draw to Pasadena, though. This is the birthplace of America’s original celebrity chef: Julia Child. It’s no wonder, then, that visitors to Pasadena will find hundreds of restaurants to choose from, representing everything from seafood to Indian cuisine.
The cultural scene in Pasadena is equally rich. Performing arts at the Pasadena Playhouse, exhibits at the renowned Norton Simon Museum and performances by the Pasadena Symphony show off the best that Pasadena has to offer, erasing any reason to make the trek into neighboring Los Angeles for a cultural fix.
Under the protective shadow of the San Gabriel Mountains, Pasadena also offers plenty of outdoor enjoyment for visitors. One of the most impressive examples is The Huntington Library, whose botanical gardens sprawl over 150 acres. And if the California shores are calling, Santa Monica and its famed pier are just 25 miles away.
Pasadena is a quaint, pedestrian-friendly town, and many of its major attractions are easily within walking distance. Local buses are also available and even connect into neighboring Los Angeles. There is also train service into L.A. Those planning to travel further or often, though, may find it easier to rent a car during their stay.
Bob Hope Airport (BUR) in Burbank is the closest airport to Pasadena, about 16 miles northwest of the city. It’s possible to take a bus from Bob Hope Airport into Pasadena, though the travel time winds up being close to two hours. Shuttles and taxis offer a more direct route into Pasadena, while renting a car at the airport is probably the most convenient option.
