The months of June, July and August are the rainy season in Monterrey, but visitors who arrive before wet weather hits (such as in the months of March and April) can enjoy dry, warm temperatures in Monterrey. Because June through August are not only humid but hot, too, tourists might avoid Monterrey during this time. A lack of demand, though, can mean cheap flights to Monterrey.

As one of the largest cities in all of Mexico, the capital city of Nuevo Leon offers a tourist-friendly introduction to the country. With modern amenities and many comforts one would expect to find in a western city, Monterrey is a welcoming stepping stone into all that Mexico has to offer.
Within the city, tourists will find there is plenty to enjoy. From historic monuments to cultural attractions and non-stop entertainment, Monterrey is a vibrant destination. Start a trip to the city with an architectural tour of sites like the Monterrey State’s Government Palace, the Old Federal Palace and the Metropolitan Cathedral, some of the finest specimens of historical architecture in the city.
Afterward, balance architecture with culture with visits to attractions like the Monterrey Contemporary Art Museum, the Museum of Mexican History and the Alfa Planetarium, where you can get your fill of artwork, local history and science, respectively.
One might notice that Monterrey is surrounded by mountains, and indeed, this protected city offers an array of ways to enjoy Mother Nature. Ecotourism is a big draw here, and visitors enjoy exploring not just the mountains, but the waterfalls, trails and cliffs of Monterrey, too.
Back in the heart of the city, shoppers will enjoy the modern shopping malls that boast designer names and international labels. For a more locally flavored shopping excursion, the shops of Zona Rosa and Carretera Nacional are a must-visit.
Of course, one can’t visit Monterrey without digging into some true, authentic Mexican cuisine, and countless restaurants in the city serve freshly grilled meats and spicy sides. Don’t miss the slow-cooked goat, a Monterrey specialty.
Public transportation options in Monterrey include a metro system and a public bus system, both of which make it relatively easy to get around the city without a car. For times when a car is necessary, though, taxis can be arranged by phone and are generally an affordable option. Rental cars are also available, and visitors generally find Monterrey navigable by car.
General Mariano Escobedo International Airport, also known as Monterrey International Airport (MTY), is the primary airport serving the city. About 19 miles from downtown, the airport is well connected to Monterrey by an express bus service that runs directly from the city to the airport. Taxis can also be rented at the airport, and car rentals are available.
Along with Del Norte International Airport, General Mariano Escobedo International Airport (MTY) is the major hub for traffic to and from Monterrey, in northeast Mexico. The airport has three modern terminals which, although small, process about 5 million passengers each year.
Monterrey is considered one of the cleanest and safest cities in Mexico, and the airport shares this reputation. The airport is frequented by a large number of Mexican business travelers and the modern facilities are kept in great shape.
While most of the airport’s traffic is domestic (coming from cities such as Mexico City, Cancun, Acapulco, Puerto Vallarta, Tijuana and Oaxaca), flights to General Mariano Escobedo Airport are available from several cities around the United States such as Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Detroit, Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Miami.
