Dotted with beaches, resorts and featuring a typical Mexican flair, La Paz means peace in Spanish and both locals and visitors are drawn to its calm and happy atmosphere. Its peaceful city and good weather make this a popular travel destination for people in the US and those who want to experience Mexico. La Paz is a very tranquil port and offers its visitors great accommodation, peaceful spas, good dining and a range of sports like diving, golf and paddle boarding.
Located 100 miles (160 km) from the Baja peninsula, La Paz offers its share of beautiful beaches. Sea kayaking in La Paz is quite popular and with good reason. It has some of the best locations in the world. You can choose from a day trip to a tour over a few days. It’s a great way to view dolphins, whales and enjoy snorkelling during down times. You can also see sea lions at Los Islotes. The Malecon is a 3.4 mile (5.5 km) promenade along the waterfront and is a great place to see the sunset, run, walk or bike in the fresh air. Good restaurants are plentiful in the area and include a range of cuisines from taco stands to gourmet dining. Bismark Cito is a popular restaurant located on the Malecon.
Every year whales make their way to the area as part of their annual migration. They mate and calve in the calm water. During whale season, sightings of whales are almost guaranteed. The climate is dry desert. This means that warm, sunny weather is the norm. The yearly average is between 24 and 33 degrees. This makes it the ideal summer and winter destination. Summer runs from July to September and is humid with temperatures between 34 and 36 degrees, so if you don’t like high heat and humidity, choose the cooler months of spring.
The city is served by Manuel Marques de Leon International Airport. This airport is located about 8.7 miles (14 km) from La Paz. Transport from the airport includes buses, taxis and private rental cars. Private airport transfers can be booked or you can arrange shared transfers. Visitors can also make use of the train and metro or arrange a limo for special occasions. Once in La Paz, you can use the city bus service, rail and metro or use your rental car to see the sights. Bicycle hire is also available.
